Alarm clock in a carpet
Someone put a alarm clock in a carpet! And now try to sell it… In order to turn it off, you have to get up and step on it. If you really want to make it a challenge, place it far away from your bed. Of course it wouldn’t be a clock if it didn’t have and LCD screen to indicate time too.
Giant Spiderbot
In the works for a decade and a half, this insect like walking machine constructed by a Finnish subsidiary of John Deere is supposed to be an eco-friendly, log-hauling monstrosity; its six massive legs spreads the weight of the machine evenly, the company claims, to minimize any impact on the forest soil.

N-Trig DuoSense
There is a very piece on the DuoSense Technology that powers the Dell Latitude XT’s touch-sensitive and pen-enabled display. The ability to have electrostastic, battery-free pen input with 256 levels of pressure and being able to seamlessly switch from pen to hand back to pen without a hitch is quite unique, to the point of justifying a price much higher than that of regular pen-based devices.

Intel Introduces World’s Smallest Solid-State Drive
According to a recent press release by Intel, “The Intel® Z-P140 PATA Solid-State Drive is smaller than a penny and weighs less than a drop of water.”
This memory, designed for small mobile devices such as cameras, cell phones, and MP3 players, will make its debut at the Consumer Electric Show in January.
The small size allows for faster speeds using less power, an important combination for modern cell phones and MP3 players. It will initially be available in 2GB and 4GB capacities, expandable up to 16GBs. This means newer gadgets will stuff more memory in smaller (or thinner) packages.

Microsoft buys Multimap
Mapping is a key app for any Web 2.0 player, and will become even more important as applications move to mobile devices. Today Microsoft strengthened its hand in the mapping game by buying UK-based Multimap, which is the second-most popular Web-based mapping service in the UK (between Google Maps and Google Earth). The “Times of London” reports that Microsoft paid $50 million for the tech company, half of which went to founder Sean Phelan. Multimap has been around for more than a decade. It is expected to show revenues of $25 million this year, and be slightly profitable.
Pig toys that get squashed and come back to life
For $3 in Japan, you can buy one of these totally awesome pig toys that can regain (and re-spawn) their shape even after being completely squashed. It’s pretty impressive to say the least. I just hope I’ll be able to find these somewhere in Hong Kong when I’m there (I’m assuming that if they got imported anywhere, that it’d be Hong Kong first).
New Light Glows For 12 Years
Litroenergy is a new type of material that emits light for 12 years without needing electricity or sun exposure. The self-luminous micro-particles are called Litrospheres and are said to be non-toxic, inexpensive and equivalent to a 20 watt incandescent bulb.
The Litrospheres give off a continuous illumination, and can be designed to glow in any color. In addition, they are not affected by heat or cold, and are 5,000-pound crush resistant. They can be injection molded or added to paint. The fill rate of Litroenergy micro particles in plastic injection molding material or paint is about 20%. The constant light gives off no U.V. rays, and can be designed to emit almost any color of light desired.
